All CPE children go ice skating once a week through the winter months at Lasker rink in Central Park. This important part of the curriculum is not optional for students. They walk as a class with their teachers and other adults to the skating rink where they spend the morning or afternoon. Physical education is a vital part of a child’s growth and CPE encourages teachers to engage in many outdoor activities. There is a small fee for the ice skating program that can be paid in September or over the course of three months – September, October and November. Scholarships are available, but families must fill out the request in September. There are no qualification requirements.
All children have at least one scheduled outdoor activity during the day. Recess is held after lunch for most children. There are frequent trips to Central Park since it is often used as an extension of the classroom for science, social studies and mapping lessons.
