CPE1: Central Park East 1 Elementary School

There are approximately 200 students in the school. Class size varies from year to year with 20 to 22 in the K/1 classes and 25 to 28 in the 4/5 classes. Each class has one teacher to whom the entire class is assigned. Other teachers work collaboratively with the main classroom teacher. Each teacher and classroom sets up the adult to child ratio as appropriate for the adults and children in the classroom. In addition, student teachers from Teacher’s College, Sarah Lawrence, Bank Street College of Education and other institutions are a regular presence. The school also attracts volunteers from a variety of other programs.
